2nd July The Wind in the Willows

 Join Badger, Ratty, Mole and Toad for a perfect summer of adventure. What starts as a search for the best picnic spot rapidly turns into the most hilarious of escapades. With the bumptious Toad’s heart set on a shiny new motorcar and his very liberty soon at stake, will his faithful friends come to his rescue – and will he let them? Alive with music, song and dance, this magical family show is presented in beautiful traditional costume and features a woodland parade during the interval for everyone to join in with! Fun and frolics aplenty with this glorious new adaptation of the classic novel loved by children and adults alike, performed in the grounds of some of the UK and Ireland’s most beautiful open-air venues. Gates open at 16.30 and show begins at 17.00. Tickets available in advance or on day of show from reception. Please note normal entrance to the grounds will close at 16.30. 

2nd- 10th August Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival 

The 45th annual Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival which includes a diverse programme of events dedicated to celebrating Birr's diverse heritage and culture. Information available from www.birrvintageweek.com. 

8th August Much Ado About Nothing

Come and enjoy this open air theatre production of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing on the lawn of Birr Castle.

10th August The Sunflower Show

The Sunflower Show is a quirky piece of street theatre using suitcase puppetry. A gardener opens the lid of her wheelbarrow to reveal a world where seeds grow into the most extraordinary plants and battle with slugs and other mischievous garden pests for survival. Shows take place at 13.00 and 14.30.

31st August - 1st September The Irish Game and Country Fair

Ireland's premier game and country fair will take place at Birr Castle Demesne from August 31st to September 1st. The fair provides entertainment for all those interested in the Irish countryside. The fair features international sports competitions, living history encampments and re-enactments, a village of trade stands and much more for the family to enjoy.
